1. Pasta pomodoro – a classic for your camping trip

This old favourite is a staple of family holidays and adds a little dolce vita to any camping trip. Fans of Italian cuisine love fresh tomatoes, passata and puree. Combine them with garlic, basil and pasta and you’ve got a simple and delicious dish. The good news: you don’t have to do without this delicious dish on a camping trip – even if you’re going to be on the road for a while. As the original recipe is a little time-consuming, we do it campsite-style.

What you’ll need

  • 1 pack pasta
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1/2 tube tomato puree
  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper

Fry the diced onion in the butter until translucent. Then add the flour to make a roux. Next, add the diced tomatoes, tomato puree and a little water to the pan if you need. Season the whole thing with salt, pepper and sugar. There you have it: a simple, delicious, veggie-friendly dish to enjoy al fresco. Top tip: a little Parmesan adds a finishing touch to the sauce.

2. Pancakes with blueberries – a brilliant breakfast

Get your day off to a great start with tasty pancakes. After all, they’re not just a hit with the kids. Our recipe makes enough to serve four. Scale up the ingredients to feed more – or if you’re just feeling a little hungrier than usual.

What you’ll need

  • 2 medium eggs
  • 300g flour
  • 125 ml milk
  • 100 ml mineral water
  • a pinch of salt
  • oil for frying

To make the perfect pancakes, start by beating the egg with the salt until foamy. Gradually add the milk and flour and stir until you have a smooth batter. If you haven’t packed a mixer, here’s a tip: you can slowly add the flour with a tablespoon and mix it with a whisk. This way, you avoid lumps in your batter.

Let the batter rest for about 10 minutes. Then add the mineral water and stir for another two minutes.

You can cook the batter in a frying pan or double grill pan. Serve the pancakes with slices of apple or – our favourite – blueberries. Fancy something savoury? Spice things up with cheese and chilli.

3. Salads – a staple on the side

A balanced diet is an important part of any camping trip. That’s why we’ve come up with this broccoli and tomato salad – a tasty dish that’s healthy, too.

What you’ll need

  • 250 g broccoli
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1/2 cup cress
  • 1 sprig rosemary
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice or balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tbsp rosemary or olive oil
  • 1/2 crushed garlic clove

Thoroughly wash then cook the broccoli – but make sure it doesn’t get too tender. It needs to have a little bite. Then drain it and leave it to cool. While it drains, take care of the tomatoes. Chop them into small pieces and mix them with cress, balsamic or lemon juice, and oil. Pluck a few rosemary leaves from the branch and chop them finely. If you love a little garlic – who doesn’t? – crush a clove of the good stuff and add it to your salad. It tastes great without it, too. Now you’ve whipped up your salad mixture, add the broccoli once it’s cooled. Top tip: this salad is great at a barbecue.

4. Jacket potatoes – a campsite classic

What you’ll need

  • large potatoes
  • tinfoil

Parboil the potatoes for 10 minutes, then wrap them in tinfoil. Cook them in the fire or on the grill for 15 minutes. Our tip: get creative with fillings – it doesn’t have to be baked beans. Herby cream cheese makes for a great, fresh filling.

5. Twist bread – a campfire cooking classic

This delicious bread recipe goes down a treat with all the family. There’s a reason this tasty bread with a twist is a firm favourite for cooking on a campfire.

What you’ll need

  • 300 ml warm water
  • 1 sachet of active dry yeast
  • 500 g plain flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Stir the yeast into the warm water, then add sugar, salt and flour. Knead until you have a smooth dough. If the mixture is too sticky, add more flour. Then cover with a damp cloth and leave for an hour in a warm place. Top tip: if you can’t add yeast, use a tablespoon of baking powder instead.

6. No oven, no stress – the pan pizza

Most camping recipes stick to the beaten track. But this one gives you a little taste of the unexpected: ever eaten pizza cooked in a pan? Then it’s high time you joined the no-bake revolution. More and more campers are discovering the delights of pan pizza.

What you’ll need for the dough

  • 275 g plain flour
  • 130 ml water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp baking powder

What you’ll need for the sauce

  • 1 tin peeled plum tomatoes
  • black pepper
  • salt
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

What you’ll need for the toppings

  • 1 handful basil leaves
  • 1 mozzarella ball
  • Parmesan cheese

Combine all of the ingredients for the dough until you have a smooth mixture. Do the same with the sauce ingredients. However, you can do away with the hard work of mixing and whiz it up with a blender instead. Then heat a large pan and add the olive oil. Knead the dough through again properly and roll it out so that it fits the pan. Make sure that around 2 cm of the edge of the pan is covered. Cook the pizza base until firm and golden brown.

While it’s cooking, you can start on the toppings. Spread the sauce out evenly. Then add ingredients like salami, ham or mushrooms. Chop the basil coarsely and sprinkle it over the pizza. Tear the mozzarella ball into pieces and use it to top the pizza. Top tip: sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the pizza when it’s done.

7. Pasta with pesto – the perfect side dish

When it comes to camping recipes, a good pasta salad is a must. This one makes a great side dish, too.

What you’ll need

  • 1 pack of pasta
  • 2 jars of green pesto
  • halved cherry tomatoes
  • diced mozzarella
  • rocket

First of all, cook the pasta, rinse it in cold water and leave it to cool. Once cooled, mix the pasta with pesto, tomatoes, mozzarella and rocket. This quick and easy pasta salad is great with bread or served as a side dish at a barbecue.

8. Fried potatoes – a great way to use leftovers

If you’ve got too many potatoes left over from the day before, whip up a pan of fried potatoes. Bacon and onion make great additions. If you can’t get bacon, chopped salami will work too. Top tip: brighten up your potato dish with a fried egg, seasoned with salt, pepper and chilli.

9. Salmon omelette

What you’ll need

  • 200 g fresh salmon, chopped into small pieces
  • 10 eggs
  • 1 cup chopped spring onions
  • 2 hot peppers
  • 1 tbsp coriander
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Mix the chopped herbs and salmon with the beaten egg. Heat the grill and add a little oil. Pour a medium-sized disc of the mixture into the grill pan. When bubbles form, fold the omelette into a half-moon shape. Cook until firm.

10. Chilli con carne – spice is nice

If you like to spice things up a little, you’ll love this one-pot wonder.

What you’ll need

  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 chilli peppers
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 800 g tinned tomatoes
  • 400 g tinned kidney beans
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Chilli powder
  • Salt and pepper

First, finely chop the onions. Wash the chilli peppers and chop into small pieces. Heat the oil in a pan, then add the beef mince and chopped onion. When the mince has browned and the onions are translucent, add the rest of the ingredients (including the tomato juice from the can!). Cook for around five minutes, then season with salt, pepper and chilli.
